The Portrait Process

An initial meeting is the first  step, and can be either in the artist's studio or in the home of the customer.  The portrait is discussed at this time, and options such as size, composition, clothing and background are considered.

A photography session is usually required for portraits, which can be done by the artist or another photographer if desired.  Existing photographs or reference photos may be used to make the painting if the quality is acceptable.

Once the photos and the overall composition are agreed upon, a contract for the portrait is made. A deposit of 50% of the total price is required in order to begin the painting, with the balance due when the painting is complete and delivered.   A final sitting is sometimes required for the artist to complete finishing details.

The artist has studied with nationally known portrait artist, Everett Raymond Kinstler, and is a member of the Portrait Society of America.  Only high quality materials are used, and satisfied customers are a top priority for Mr. Key.
